About the Symposium
The NIE was founded thirty years ago in recognisation of this need to bring together all disciplines of natural sciences, social sciences, health sciences, engineering and technology. The year 2008 marks the 30th anniversary of the National Institute of ecology, and incidentally, also the birth centenary of its founder, late Professor Ramdeo Misra, fondly known as the 'Father of Indian Ecology'. The national symposium on 'Knowledge Systems for Ecosystem Management and Sustainable Development' is therefore organised to mark the 30th anniversary of the NIE and is humbly dedicated to its founder on his birth centenary.
The symposium will essentially be interdisciplinary in character and focus on the application of different knowledge systems to the management and restoration of natural ecosystems in order to achive sustainable development. It will cover all kinds of natural ecosystems (forests, grazing lands, deserts, freshwater, marine, coastal and mountain).
