Seminar on Strategies for Water Security in Bundelkand; Khajuraho, 21-23 March 2017
Seminar on Strategies for Water Security in Bundelkand to Meet the Challenge of Climate Change
Khajuraho, M.P.; 21-23 March 2017
The Seminar is being jointly organised by the Centre for Inland Waters in South Asia in association with the Maharaja Chhatrasal Bundelkhand University, Chhatarpur, on the occasion of the World Water Day and the International Day of Forestry.
The Seminar’s main objective is to discuss the issues related to water resources and their management in Bundelkhand in detail and make specific actionable recommendations on strategies for ensuring water security in the region by involving local communities. The role of traditional tanks and farm ponds in ensuring water and food security, sanitation and health, and livelihoods, especially of rural and periurban communities will be discussed and plans for community-based restoration/creation of water bodies will be developed.
Those interested in making a presentation should bear in mind that this is not a research seminar. Only the issues of water resources and their management and those concerned with the linkages between water and forests and climate change will be discussed in the context what needs to be done and how. We will try to arrive at some consensus on strategies for quick, cost-effective sustainable management of both surface and groundwater in the region, for achieving water security with equity and to ensure livelihoods, in the wake of climate change.
