Author Guidelines

The manscripts, in English only, should be prepared electronically and word processed using MS Word 2003 or Word 2007 or WordPerfect 9 or higher, and follow a standard layout: A-4 size, minimum 2.5 cm margin on all the four sides, and 1.5 line spacing. The text should be carefully checked for typographical errors, especially numerals and diacritical marks in words from different languages.The title page should comprise: full title of the paper, initials and surname of author(s), name of the laboratory where the work was carried out, and the address to which all correspondence concerning the manuscript should be made. Please add Telephone and Fax numbers as well as Email IDs. The abstract, on a separate page, placed before the introduction, should include sufficient information on the objectives, study area, methods, results and major conclusions.An Abstract in German, French, Portuguese or Spanish can be added after the English Abstract BUT the authors will be responsible for itas correct translation (after english version has been edited.).Six to ten key words, not repeated from the title of the paper, should be placed after the Abstract.All acknowledgements should be put at the end before References. The main text of the paper should be reasonably subdivided into sections and subsections. No part of the manuscript should be underlined except the Latin names of organisms. No word or phrase should be abbreviated.The tables should be prepared on separate pages and numbered consecutively with Arabic numerals. Each table should be provided a short title. The basis for the nomenclature of taxa should be indicated in the Methods section.All illustrations and photographs should be referred to in the text as figure, and numbered consecutively with Arabic numerals. All figures should be provided a detailed caption and all captions should be placed together on a separate page.The manuscript, comprising of the Title page, Abstract, Text, tables and captions to figures, should form ONE MAIN SUBMISSION FILE. All figures (Line drawings or Photographs) should be uploaded as separate graphic file (JPG, TIFF, BMP, EPS or PNG). These will be uploaded as Supplementary Files, and should not be included in the Main File containing the Text and Tables only.  In case there are many figures/photos, these can be compressed into a ZIP file and uploaded as one Supplementary File.The text (tables) and graphic files should be named in a manner that these can be readily identified with the author(s) and/or title of the paper. It may be noted that the online system converts the file names to its own Numbering system. Only metric units (S.I. Units) should be used. References to literature should be given in the text by the author's name and year only. All cited references should be listed a the end in alphabetical order under the first author's name. Include the names of all authors/editors, full title of the paper, unabbreviated title of the journals, and the name and place of the publisher, and total number of pages in case of books, collective volumes and proceedings, thesis, report etc.Please note that it is the author's responsibility to obtain written permission to quote copyrighted material which has appeared in another publication.Hard copies (Printed) of the manuscript should NOT be mailed separately. It is advisable to examine the Detailed Guidelines for the Preparation of Manuscripts. The latest guidelines are published in Vol. 48 no. 1 (2022) and can be downloaded from there.

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

1. The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
2. The submission file is in Microsoft Word, or WordPerfect document file format. The text is 1.5 line-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining.
3. The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.Where available, URLs for the references have been provided. Formatting of all References has been checked.
4. All figures are submitted as separate gtaphic files (JPG/PNG) and have not been embedded in a text file.
5. A Cover Letter stating new contribution in the study, relevance to international scientific community; origin (part of the PhD or larger research project) and funding sources, and specific contribution of each author to the study and preparation of the paper, is submitted.
6. A declaration signed by all co-authors is also submitted.
7. The author(s) declare(s) that the article contains no unlawful, defamatory, fabricated, plagiarized, or otherwise unethical information or material, and that they have read and followed the Journal's Policy on Ethics in Publication.

There shall be NO charges for including figures/ photographs in colour which are appropriate to the study and submitted in desired high quality graphic files.

Students who do not have funds to pay such fees, and are the sole author of a paper, may request for a reduction or waiver of such fees by providing full justification for it (such as not receiving a fellowship). Publications with multiple authors cannot be granted discount or waiver. Those do not want to pay the Fee, should consider joining as annual Members of the NIE.
