Impact of Organic Solid Wastes on Carbon Mineralization in Soil

Angom Sarjubala Devi, K. Vanalalmal Sawmkima

Abstract

The change in carbon mineralization in soil due to addition of five different types of solid waste namely, pork waste, rice husk, vegetable waste, saw dust and cow dung was studied from August 2008 to November 2010 in a tropical lateritic soil in Tanhril, Mizoram University campus. The trend of C- mineralization was in the order: pork waste> cow dung> rice husk> vegetable waste> saw dust. Overall organic C, N and C- mineralization were higher in the soil after addition of the wastes than the initial values.
